Advantages of macOS
Fewer virus attacks:
As macOS is the second most used operating system and has less number of active users so it has fewer virus attacks also. The other reason of virus safety is its UNIX relationship which is more secure than Windows OS.
Good customer support:
Mac users get good response from its support team as compared to other operating systems. Apple has skilled engineers which helps the user in fixing the issues in their hardware and software.
Similar GUI for all the products:
macOS has same graphical user interface (GUI) as found in other Apple products like iPhone and tablets. Users feel comfortable in using macOS if they shifted from other Apple products.
Performance and long life:
As Apple makes both hardware and software so it’s hardware communication is very efficient and it improves performance. The operating system and hardware work great. Apple computer has a longer life than other computers. The battery timing of mac laptops is also longer.
If you install Windows then it comes with pre-installed apps which slow down your computer e.g. Onedrive slows your computer. But this is not the case with macOS, it comes with powerful apps which don’t affect performance of your system. Some of the pre-installed apps of macOS are iPhoto and iMovie.

Can run Windows:
You can run the Windows operating system if you have macOS installed by using Bootcamp or parallels software.
Disadvantages of macOS
The minimum cost of a Mac PC is higher than $1000. You can get good Windows PC at $1000 with more hardware specification.
Fewer games and software:
Most game developers prefer to make games for the Windows OS because they have more percentages of users. Mac users have fewer games available. Also, mac computers have low graphics capability to run high graphics games. There is some software which is available for Windows and not available for mac users e.g. adobe premiere pro etc.
No hardware customization:
If you buy any Mac computer/laptop then you cannot change its hardware parts like processor, graphics card etc. For some mac computers, you can change hardware and RAM but it is not for all mac computers. It is also not possible to change other hardware accessories like internal computer parts, the only choice you have is to buy a new mac computer. On every major release of your operating system you have to change your computer else 50% of your operating system features not work.
Windows cannot read the macOS file system:
macOS can read NTFS and FAT Windows format but Windows cannot read the macOS file system. You need to install 3rd party software in Windows to do so. Some other software like footnotes has compatibility issues while moving files from macOS to Windows.
Less hardware used:
The new version of macOS computer supports less USB ports and they also not shipped with CD/DVD writer.

How to install macOS Mojave on VMware Workstation
Create macOS virtual machine
Creating a macOS virtual machine is very simple, here are the steps to create a virtual machine on VMware Workstation:
- Click File, select New Virtual Machine…
- Select Typical (recommended) and click Next.
- Select I will install the operating system later. and click Next.
- Select Apple Mac OS X in the Guest operating system section and select macOS 10.14 in the Version section. Click Next.
- In the Name the Virtual Machine window, name the virtual machine and virtual machine directory. I personally would put it on a different drive than the system drive.
- Select the size for the new virtual disk in the Specify Disk Capacity window. This is the virtual disk to be installed macOS. Click Next and then Finish.
Add macOS image
After creating the virtual machine, we have a virtual disk to install macOS Mojave. Now we just need to add a new virtual disk containing the macOS installer. You can also create a macOS bootable USB, then boot USB in Vmware workstation to install but using a virtual hard disk will be a lot simpler.
- Download the OSX 10.14.0 Installer vmdk file. This is an installation image of macOS Mojave. You do not need to use the Hackintosh ISO.
- Select the virtual machine just created, click on Edit virtual machine settings.
- In the Memory section, you can increase the value to make the virtual machine run faster. I increased it to 4096MB (4GB) but macOS still runs very slowly.
- Click Add…, then select Hard Disk and click Next.
- In the Select a Disk Type window, click Next.
- Select Use an existing virtual disk in the Select a Disk window and click Next to continue.
- In the Select an Existing Disk window, click Browse… to select the OSX_10.14.0_Installer.vmdk file that you downloaded in step 1.
- Click Finish, then click OK in the Virtual Machine Settings window.
Now you can boot the virtual machine to install macOS Mojave. I encountered an error when I clicked the Power on this virtual machine button:
VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0) vcpu-0:VERIFY vmcore/vmm/main/physMem_monitor.c:1279
If you get the same error, you can fix this by adding the line “smc.version = “0”” to the “%ProgramData%\VMware\VMware Workstation\config.ini” file. The easiest way is to run Command Prompt under Admin (find cmd.exe, then right-click and select Run as Administrator), then run the following two commands:

Ok, my virtual machine has booted, I’ve seen the screen to install macOS.
On the macOS Utilities screen, you need to run Disk Utility to create an APFS partition to install the macOS Mojave.
- In the left column, you will see the virtual hard disk you created above (VMware Virtual…). Select it and click the Erase button.
- Under Name, enter a name for the new partition.
- macOS Mojave requires a partition in APFS format for installation. Select APFS from the Format drop-down list. For older versions, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
- Click the Erase button to continue.
- Once you have an APFS partition, close Disk Utility to start installing macOS.
Go back to the macOS Utilities screen:
- Select Install macOS and then click the Continue button.
- Continue to select Continue, then Agree and Agree.
- In the next window, select the APFS partition you created above. Then click Install to install macOS Mojave on VMware Workstation.
- The virtual machine will restart several times until it allows you to set up. Please be patient.
Once installed, you can remove the virtual hard disk that you added in the Add MacOs images step. Open Virtual Machine Settings, select the disk and click the Remove button.
Install VMware Tools
It is very important that you install VMware Tools in the virtual machine. Installed VMware Tools will improve the performance and support for additional features. Learn more about installing VMware Tools for the macOS virtual machine at VMware’s Web site.
- Select the VM from the VMware menu, then select Install VMware Tools…
- VMware will automatically mount the darwin.iso file and the VMware Tools icon will appear on the virtual machine screen. Double click on this icon to install.
- Click the Open Security Preferences button if you see the message “System Extension Blocked“.
- You will see the message “System software from developer “VMware, Inc.” was blocked from loading.“. Click the Allow button.
- Restart the virtual machine.
