How To Create A Flyer Using Adobe Illustrator

A flyer is a form of paper advertisement intended for wide distribution and typically posted or distributed in a public place, handed out to individuals or sent through the mail. In the 2010s, flyers range from inexpensively photocopied leaflets to expensive, glossy, full-color circulars.

The connection with a person came about later, when air travel became more common.

What are posters and flyers? .

.. Posters tend to be fairly large and professionally printed, and almost always feature an illustration, while flyers (also known as miniposters) are usually 8 ½” x 11″ or so, might be simply photocopied or e-mailed, and often rely solely on words to get their point across.

Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor and design program developed and marketed by Adobe Inc. Originally designed for the Apple Macintosh, development of Adobe Illustrator began in 1985. Along with Creative Cloud, Illustrator CC was released

Adobe Illustrator is a software application for creating drawings, illustrations, and artwork using a Windows or MacOS computer. Illustrator was initially released in 1987 and it continues to be updated at regular intervals, and is now included as part of the Adobe Creative Cloud. Illustrator is widely used by graphic designers, web designers, visual artists, and professional illustrators throughout the world to create high quality artwork. Illustrator includes many sophisticated drawing tools that can reduce the time need to create illustrations.

How Adobe Illustrator is Used

Adobe Illustrator is used to create a variety of digital and printed images, including cartoons, charts, diagrams, graphs, logos, and illustrations. Illustrator allows a user to import a photograph and use it as a guide to trace an object in the photograph. This can be used to re-color or create a sketch-like appearance of a photograph. Illustrator also makes it possible to manipulate text in many ways, making Illustrator a useful tool for creating postcards, posters, and other visual designs which use text and images together. Illustrator’s ability to place text around a curve is especially useful for artists creating logos. Illustrator is also used in designing mock-ups which show what the website will look like when it’s completed, and creating icons used within apps or websites.

How Much Does Illustrator Cost?

Illustrator CC is available directly from Adobe. It requires a subscription for either the individual application or for the suite of applications included in the Creative Cloud. The individual Adobe Illustrator app can be licensed for $19.99 per month on a monthly basis, or $17.99 per month with an annual subscription. Fees for accessing the entire Creative Cloud app are $49 per month with customers using a pre-paid plan receiving a 20 percent discount.

Adobe Illustrator Free Trial

A free trial of Adobe Illustrator is available from Adobe, which includes all the features and capabilities of the complete version. The free trial lasts for one week from the time the user installs the software and starts using the program.

How to Learn Illustrator: Classes, Training, Books and Tutorials

The most common methods of obtaining Illustrator training include classes, online training and books. The primary advantages of Illustrator classes are immediate feedback from the instructor while working in a traditional classroom setting. Many students learn Illustrator online to eliminate the need for traveling to a remote location. People who want to learn Illustrator without leaving their office or home, or who work better independently, can take advantage of self-paced tutorials and Illustrator books.

Illustrator Mac vs. Windows Differences, compatibility, transferring files

Adobe’s products use a file format that is cross-platform compatible between Mac and Windows, allowing for the transfer of Illustrator files between Illustrator on Mac and Windows without any conversion process. The transfer process is improved if Mac users use the .ai file extension so that the Windows system knows the file belongs to Illustrator. This is included by default but can also be added manually.

The differences between using Illustrator on a Mac and a Windows computer occur outside of the application itself. There are minor differences in the keyboard layout, with keys such as the Control key on windows being called the Command key on the MacOS and the Alt key on Windows being called the Option key on the MacOS.

Step 1

Open Illustrator and click “Print Document” under the “Create New” heading on the welcome screen. If your preferences are set to skip the welcome screen select “File” then “New” from the application menu and select “Print” from the “New Document Profile” drop-down menu.

Step 2

Set the size of your flyer in the “New Document” dialog box. You can create your own dimensions, but the “Letter” setting is preset for a standard 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper which is recommended for most people printing from home.

Step 3

Select the “Type Tool” from the Tools panel to the left of the workspace and add text to your flyer. You can create point text, which has no bounding box, by clicking anywhere on the artboard and typing. You can reposition this text or any object in an Illustrator document by selecting the “Selection Tool” from the Tools panel and clicking and dragging inside the text box. Adjust the character settings of the text by highlighting it with the “Type Tool” selected and adjusting the figures and settings in the “Characters” Tool Options bar above your workspace. You can create text that follows a shape or path you create by selecting the “Type on a Path Tool” nested beneath the “Type Tool.”

Step 4

Add images to your flyer. You can import photos or other graphics by selecting “File” then “Place” from the application menu, or you can create your own with Illustrator’s many drawing and shape tools. Select one of the shapes nested beneath the “Rectangle Tool” in the Tools panel and click and drag to create a shape. You can make stars, polygons or circles of all sorts. You can alter the appearance of a shape or add a stroke by adjusting the settings in the “Path” Tool Options bar above the workspace or by adjusting settings in the “Appearance” palette to the right of the workspace.

Step 5

Apply effects to the text and images. Visit the “Effect” menu in the application menu and try various effects until you find something that fits the mood of your flyer. You can make a shape into a series of scribbles by selecting “Effect,” “Stylize” then “Scribble” and tinkering with the settings in the “Scribble Options” dialog box. This effect can be very interesting if used correctly.

Select “File” then “Save As” from the application menu. Depending on how you are going to use and print the flyer, you may want to save it in any of several formats. Save it first as an .AI file by selecting “Adobe Illustrator (.ai)” from the “Format” drop-down menu in the “Save As” dialog box. This format will keep your flyer in vector format so it can be adjusted and resized later if necessary, and can also be printed at home. If the flyer will be sent to a printer for mass production, select “Adobe PDF” from the “Format” menu. Click “Save” when you’re finished.
